What is a translucent medium?

Hint Fog, Butter paper, ground glass etc. are some of the translucent medium which propagates the light partially from it. We cannot see from them clearly.

Complete step by step solution: Translucent medium can be defined as the medium which transmits the light rays so diffused that the objects cannot be seen distinctly. It can also be said as the medium which is partially transparent or which partially propagates the light from it.
Some of the examples of translucent medium are fog, tissue paper, frosted glass, waxed paper etc.
There are two other types of medium which are –
Transparent medium: The medium through which the light passes or complete propagation of light through the medium is called transparent medium. A transparent material appears in the colour of light it transmits. If a transparent material transmits all the colours in white light, it will not have any colour. For example – A clear empty glass, eye lenses, windowpane etc.
Opaque medium: This type of medium can be defined as the medium which does not allow the light to propagate or pass through it. The colour of an opaque object is the colour of light it reflects in white light. The examples of opaque medium are cardboard, bricks, wood, buildings, eyelids etc.

Note: The translucency does not necessarily follow Snell’s law. The photons can be scattered at either of the two interfaces or internally where there is change in index of refraction.
