Hint: In order to find out the correct answer to this question, we will study the basics of the paramagnetic materials. We will also brush up the characteristics and properties of paramagnetic materials.
Complete step by step answer:
We all have seen a magnet in our daily life and we also know that these magnets are classified into two groups pertaining to their capabilities as permanent and temporary magnets. The magnets that are found in nature are known as permanent magnets, whereas, the magnets that can be developed or possess the magnetic property of a material for some interval of time due to certain outside factors affecting that material (eg: magnetic or electric field) are known as temporary magnets.
It is also known to us that these materials are divided into groups depending upon their magnetic properties. The paramagnetic materials, the diamagnetic materials, the ferromagnetic materials and lastly ferrimagnetism.
The paramagnetic materials are the materials which are not very strongly attracted towards a magnet. Such materials can be magnetized only when they are placed under a strong magnetic field. In such materials, the magnetic dipoles are randomly oriented inside the material and the resultant magnetic force is zero, but when they are placed in a strong magnetic field, the dipoles are oriented in the direction of the applied field and the material becomes magnetized.
From this, we can deduce that if a paramagnetic material is placed in a magnetic field that is produced by the magnetic property of electric current flowing in a coil, then the magnetization of the material is directly proportional to the electric current flowing through the coil.
Now, if we finally plot the graph of the current versus the magnetism of the material, it will be linear and will give you a straight line.
Note:
The process in which a material is placed inside a strong magnetic field and the material becomes magnetized is known as magnetization. Also note that the magnetic field produced by the coil should be so strong to magnetize the paramagnetic material.
