Hint: First of all we have to understand what are the characteristics of transistors and then we have to understand the characteristics of CMOS and then have to compare so that we can find out if the CMOS is a transistor or not.
Complete step by step solution:
CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) is called a type of MOSFET (Metal Oxide semiconductor field effect transistor). MOSFETs were discovered to minimize the disadvantages caused by FETs (Field Effect Transistor) like slow operating capability, high draining resistance and moderate impedance (input).
These are the devices used for switching and amplifying the circuits. This device is controlled by current and its construction is made involving three terminals. CMOS basically is the type of MOSFETs but they are more modified versions of MOSFETs. Fabrication process uses complementary and symmetrical pairs of p-type and n-type MOSFETs that perform logic functions. We can simply say that CMOS is the modified type of MOSFETs which are mostly used in performing high logical functions, in microprocessors, etc.
Therefore, CMOS is a type of transistor. Hence, it is a transistor.
Note: When we are discussing two devices and need to compare them we have to consider both of them and differentiate them according to their basic characteristics. The early versions of microprocessors were constructed using PMOS (p-type MOS) then these were modified and then CMOS came into existence which is complementary to PMOS.
