That is we group the ‘x’ terms one side and constants on the other side of the equation.

Given, \[4(x - 1) - 2(3x + 5) = - 3x - 1\].
Expanding the brackets we have
\[4x - 4 - 6x - 10 = - 3x - 1\]
Adding like terms and the constant terms in the left hand side of the equation,
\[ - 2x - 14 = - 3x - 1\]
We transpose \[ - 14\] which is present in the left hand side of the equation to the right hand side of the equation by adding ‘14’ on the right hand side of the equation.
\[ - 2x = - 3x - 1 + 14\]
\[ - 2x = - 3x + 13\]
Again we transpose \[ - 3x\] which is present in the right hand side of the equation to the left hand side of the equation by adding ‘3x’ on the left hand side equation.
\[3x - 2x = 13\]
