Hint: In physics, if a body is at rest which means it’s not changing its position with respect to time and when body is moving which means it changes its position with respect to time, this is known as state of motion either the state can be rest or state can be motion. We will discuss translational motion in detail and will figure out some common examples to understand it better.
Complete answer:
The definition of translational motion states that “A motion of the body is considered to be a translational motion if all points on the body move on the same line of motion or move in the same direction in the whole journey of the motion of the body”.
Common examples of translational motion:
(a) Falling of an apple from a tree is an example of translational motion because all points of the moving body (apple) moves in the same direction and in the same line in the whole journey of motion.
(b) The motion of the object when it is pushed to move from one place to another such as a box moved from one position to another, in this case also, every point on the box will move in the same line and in the same direction, hence it’s also an example of translational motion.
Note: It should be remembered that, the basic difference between translational motion and the linear motion is that Linear motion is one in which body moves in a straight line but in translational motion occur only when all points on the body move in same line or in same direction with same velocity.
