-After the Forest Act was authorized in 1865, it was amended in 1878 . As per the Act, the forests were divided into three categories: reserved, protected and village forests.

-Some villages were permitted to dwell on in the reserved forests, provided that they have to work free for the forest department. Their work included cutting and transporting trees, protecting the forest from fires. Such forests came to be known as ‘forest villages.’

-The significance of forests cannot be underestimated. We depend on them for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use.
