Hint: As we know that hydrochloric acid is a very strong acid, it generally displaces metal ions and forms the precipitate, now we have to focus of the reaction of hydrochloric acid with the silver metal alone and then with the silver nitrate solution.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
so, now first we will look for the reactions of silver metal and silver nitrate compound with the strong acid hydrochloric acid.
The chemical formula of hydrochloric acid is $ HCl $ .
So, let's solve the question or equations one by one.
So, basically, Hydrochloric acid is insufficiently oxidized to react with silver metal.
Now in the next step we will look for the reaction between hydrochloric acid and silver nitrate.
So these both reacting species undergo displacement reactions.
And the equation for this reaction will be:
$ AgN{O_3}(aq) + HCl(aq) \to AgCl(s) + HN{O_3} $
So, as we can see from the above equation, the silver nitrate reacts with the hydrochloric acid to produce Silver chloride and the Nitric acid.
The silver chloride produced in the above reaction is insoluble and precipitates out as a ‘Curdy-white ‘precipitate.
This silver chloride produced as a precipitate generally photo oxidizes to give a metallic silver.
So, from the above discussion both the reaction process is crystal clear and is helpful.
Note:
This above reaction i.e. reaction between the hydrochloric acid and the silver nitrate is a very important reaction. Traditionally it was used in the production of black and white photography. In that process, the unexposed plates of silver chloride were used to establish black and white photographs.
